Sunday Morning, Blackpool,  somewhere in 1953. me and my Dad on our way to Mass. This was the first holiday we had ever had.  It was, as I found out later, compliments of the bonus which the firm  Theodore. J. Taylor introduced.  My Father worked at J.T.& J.Taylors  in Batley as a skilled  turner.  J. T. it transpired, was a man ahead of his time. As a result of him introducing a  profit- related  bonus  (in the early nineteen fifties !! ) his work-force enjoyed pleasures unknown to them only five years earlier.

We had two holidays when I was a child. Both of them to Blackpool. Both of them in a boarding house. But, at that time, it was five star. Thanks Theodore.  Thanks Dad. Thanks Mam.        HOME   or   Kilroy
