A SUMMER PLACE   MAN WAS IT HOT!
Was it so long ago?  I recall it vividly .A hot weekend late in the deep nineteen fifties.
Percy Faith had the big hit.  Remember?

It didn't quite get to number one, but at least it released the grip of Rock n Roll for that one
sweltering Sunday.  Not that we wanted any release from Rock n Roll, but anyway, I suppose it made our parents happy.

A summer place.  Hyrstlands Park...and the grand opening. The big hill packed to capacity. With lounging,  posing bodies.  Everyone who was anyone was there. The Dagenham Girl Pipers were there.

Who in holy hell booked them? Not in a month of Sundays would most of the young bucks on that hillside have even listened to anything they played.

But there we all were, and I suppose it figures. Batley Lads...Girl Pipers... Nuff Sed.

But man...WAS IT HOT.                      Home Page
